Chapter 3 Good Brother Zhang Jie
Chapter 3 Good Brother Zhang Jie
After hanging up the phone, Chen Jiang trembled as he reached for the cigarette case, leaned back against the sofa, and smoked a cigarette to calm his wildly beating heart.
After taking a deep breath and calming his mind, Chen Jiang picked up the lottery ticket that had changed his destiny again and began to think about what to do next.
First, he remembered seeing in short videos that winning the lottery requires paying a large tax, I think it's 20%, which means he would receive about eight million.
However, this is not a small amount. As long as he can ensure that he doesn't spend extravagantly on luxury cars and villas, or develop bad habits, it's enough for him to live comfortably for half his life.
Moreover, Chen Jiang felt he had one advantage: he was self-aware and knew he wasn't cut out for entrepreneurship. After several years of struggling in society and experiencing a series of family misfortunes, Chen Jiang's thinking was completely different from a few years ago, so he felt he could stay calm and composed.
"As long as I don't start a business or pick up bad habits, the interest alone will be enough for me to live on every year... and I can live quite well."
Chen Jiang stubbed out his cigarette, but a smile still crept onto his face.
"Eight million! Eight million... From now on, I'll finally stop being a slave and having to be beholden to others!"
After enjoying his prize for a while, Chen Jiang got up, put the lottery ticket in his inner pocket, quickly put on his coat, mask, and hat, and prepared to go out to claim his prize.
There's no time to lose. The money isn't truly his until he gets it; only then can he truly say he's changed his fate.
After searching online, Chen Jiang found that winners of prizes exceeding 10,000 yuan needed to go to the lottery redemption hall to claim their winnings. The journey took less than an hour. Chen Jiang drove very carefully, afraid of any accident.
Fortunately, we were lucky and the journey was smooth; we didn't even encounter two red lights.
Upon arriving at the prize redemption hall, Chen Jiang expected it to be troublesome, but to his surprise, it went very smoothly. After showing his identification and the winning lottery ticket, the eight million yuan check was in his hands in less than fifteen minutes.
There was a bank nearby, so Chen Jiang went straight in and withdrew the money from the check.
Logically, this step should have been quite complicated, but perhaps the staff here were already used to people winning the lottery. After confirming Chen Jiang's identity and check information, the process was completed quickly, and all the money was deposited into his account.
And even after everything was over, I didn't encounter any staff members who wanted to conduct interviews or ask for donations.
When Chen Jiang returned to the parking lot and got into his car, he saw several people wearing charity vests and carrying video cameras, rushing frantically towards the prize redemption hall.
"Is there a traffic jam?"
"That's fine, it saves me the trouble."
Chen Jiang glanced at it, and without much hesitation, stepped on the gas and left the parking lot.
With money in hand, Chen Jiang's natural idea was to find a bank to talk to and see if he could negotiate a suitable annual interest rate. He would then keep a small amount for his expenses and deposit the rest to earn interest.
Before he could even drive to the bank, he received another call. Chen Jiang glanced at the caller ID and saw it was his best friend Zhang Jie again. Upon answering, Zhang Jie's voice immediately came through:
"Hey, Jiang Zi, aren't you home?"
"I'm at your doorstep, open the door for me."
Chen Jiang was taken aback:
"Oh, when did you get here?"
Zhang Jie was helpless:
"Do you think I wanted to come here?"
"I was worried about you, you were making such a racket on the phone, I was afraid you might do something rash, so I took the day off to come over, and you're not home, damn it!"
Chen Jiang almost wanted to laugh at him, but deep down he was still touched. Although his marriage had failed, at least he still had some reliable friends.
"Don't rush, don't rush, Brother Jie, I have something to do outside, I'll be right back."
"Let's have a meal together. I'll pay you back the money you borrowed from me last time."
An indifferent voice came from the other end of the phone:
"Don't worry about money. You just got divorced and are living alone now, so you probably don't have much money left."
"But you need to come back quickly. I'm standing alone at your door, making me look like a freak."
Chen Jiang couldn't help but laugh:
"Okay, okay, right away!"
After saying that, he hung up the phone.
But it seems that joy turned to sorrow. Just as Chen Jiang was about to turn around and go back, he saw a female traffic police officer on a motorcycle suddenly rushing towards him and knocking on the window.
Chen Jiang rolled down the car window with a bitter expression and looked at the female traffic police officer. To his surprise, it was the short-haired beauty he had met yesterday.
"Hello, officer... Oh, it's you?"
The female traffic policewoman had just saluted, about to say something, when Chen Jiang's words startled her. She glanced at him, as if she remembered something:
"Hey, you're the guy who... hit my dad yesterday, right?"
Chen Jiang was a little surprised:
"You actually remember me?"
The female traffic police officer couldn't help but smile:
"I didn't intend to remember you in your suit and tie."
Chen Jiang blushed. He had thought that since it was a divorce, he had only worn a suit yesterday. Who knew that such a mess would happen?
"Ahem, it's all just a coincidence."
"Alright, what a coincidence." The female traffic police officer didn't mind and took out her notebook: "Driving while talking on the phone, 300 yuan fine and two points deducted."
Chen Jiang's smile vanished instantly:
"No, beautiful lady, I'll just say a word or two."
The female traffic police officer rolled her eyes:
"It's no use talking to me, these are the rules."
"..."
Chen Jiang was speechless, but there was nothing he could do but accept it.
Then he glanced at the beautiful traffic policewoman and suddenly became curious. He remembered that her father was a leader, so why was she working as a motorcycle police officer? He asked her:
"Alright then... Can I ask you one more question?"
"Hmm?" The female traffic police officer looked up at Chen Jiang. "What is it? Ask away."
Chen Jiang asked curiously:
"Your uncle must be a leader in the police station, right? How come you're working as a traffic cop?"
The female traffic police officer was somewhat taken aback, then smiled speechlessly, turned around, and got back on her motorcycle.
"I think we're quite destined to meet. If we meet again, I'll tell you why."
"Bye-bye, man in a suit."
After saying that, he disappeared in a flash.
"Sigh... fine, don't tell me then."
Chen Jiang watched the other person's departing figure, pursed his lips. He was just asking out of curiosity. If they met again, he would tell him... Was this some kind of idol drama?
I was just asking out of curiosity; I'm not trying to pursue you into becoming my son-in-law.
Shaking his head, he put this unexpected incident aside. Zhang Jie was still waiting for him at his doorstep, so he should hurry back.
......
There were no other setbacks along the way.
When Chen Jiang rushed home, he indeed saw a somewhat disheveled man squatting at the top of the stairs, scrolling through his phone. At first glance, he looked a bit like a homeless person.
"Brother Jie, why are you dressed like that?"
He smiled and went over to say hello, opening the door at the same time.
Zhang Jie stuffed his phone into his pocket, patted his butt, and quickly went inside. He then sat down on the sofa and said, "Stop talking nonsense, your brother is thirsty, have something to drink."
Chen Jiang could only get him a bottle of water first, then sat down next to him and watched him drink half the bottle in one go before continuing:
"Brother Jie, I'll lend you 150,000 yuan. I'll transfer it to you right away."
"I know your wife is strict, and you don't have much money. I just happened to have some unexpected income, so I'll settle your accounts first."
