Chapter 18 If I'm Not the Protagonist, Who Is?
Chapter 18 If I'm Not the Protagonist, Who Is?
This can be considered an accidental discovery of the correct use of emotional crystals. After all, using emotional crystals as fuel to modify strange objects is only one use. Emotional crystals can also enhance mental power.
Bai Ze (Su Fan): "In ancient books and miscellaneous records, there are indeed descriptions of certain rare and precious herbs and elixirs being consumed, which melt upon entering the mouth, transform into body fluids, and nourish the soul. Moreover, I previously received Bai Ze's inheritance, which happened to contain some information about emotional crystals. The method of use is indeed to eat them, as they can nourish the soul."
Bookworm (Jiang He): "Oh, I see! Why didn't you say so before?"
Bai Ze (Su Fan): "Well! I forgot. Besides, the Bai Ze inheritance I received was nothing more than information about gods, ghosts, and strange tales. I only learned about it after obtaining emotional crystals in reality."
Ya Zi (Chen Yang): "Brother Su's inheritance is amazing! Unlike my Ya Zi inheritance, it just feels like I've gained some fighting skills, and even those were taught to me punch by punch by the Ya Zi master! By the way! Why can Ya Zi transform into human form?!"
Bai Ze (Su Fan): "Have the images of mythical beasts evolved? Let me give you an example, such as the Queen Mother of the West. Her earliest image is described in the Classic of Mountains and Seas as resembling a human, with a leopard's tail and tiger's teeth, and she is good at howling. She has disheveled hair and wears a headdress. Her power is to control the calamities of heaven and the five calamities."
During the Han Dynasty, the Huainanzi recorded that Yi asked the Queen Mother of the West for the elixir of immortality. Her image was transformed into that of a noblewoman, and her authority became that of the bestower of immortality.
Later, with the advent of literary works such as "Journey to the West," the image of the Queen Mother of the West became blurred, and she came to be known as the supreme goddess.
Ya Zi (Chen Yang): "You haven't explained why Ya Zi transformed into human form and fought me! Didn't you receive Bai Ze's inheritance? Is there any explanation for that?"
Bai Ze (Su Fan): "I only inherited Bai Ze's legacy, I'm not Bai Ze, how could I possibly know everything? However, the mythical beast transforming into a human is recorded in the 'Xuanzhong Ji': a fox can transform into a human at fifty years old, know things a thousand miles away at a hundred years old, and communicate with the heavens at a thousand years old, and cannot be controlled by humans, and is called a celestial fox. It was probably believed at that time that as animals aged, they naturally developed supernatural abilities."
In literary works, such as the story of Xu Xian in "The Legend of the White Snake," the ability to transform into a human is a testament to the power of spiritual cultivation. Similarly, in novels like "Journey to the West," monsters can also transform into humans.
Bixi (Wang Jianguo): "Hehe, Brother Su is truly knowledgeable!"
Ya Zi (Chen Yang): "Brother Su, look, when you guys received the inheritance, the divine beasts were all in their original forms, but I, Ya Zi, transformed directly into a human. This shows I'm the chosen protagonist, truly unique!"
Silverfish (Jiang He): "@Yazi Since your emotional crystallization is still useless, and I happen to need to conduct related research, the previously mentioned acquisition is still valid. 100,000, or you name your price."
Ya Zi (Chen Yang): "Ah... Sister Jiang, I'm willing. Money doesn't matter. After all, don't underestimate the bond between us. I'll give it to you myself, but how am I supposed to give it to you? We live quite far apart, we can't just send it by courier, can we?! It would be terrible if something happened to something so precious!"
Bai Ze (Su Fan): "As expected of you! You're the hot-blooded anime protagonist who talks about bonds, huh?!"
Ya Zi (Chen Yang): "I have never doubted that I am the protagonist. After all, the world exists when I open my eyes and disappears when I close them. If I am not the protagonist, then who is? Newton and Gauss were born before me, so they either started early or were more talented than me. King Ying Zheng of Qin was born a thousand years earlier than me, so he either feared me or was a king who did not meet with kings."
Bai Ze (Su Fan): "6! You're really abstract!"
Silverfish (Jiang He): "If you're willing to trade, I can pick it up at your school in person. I happen to have something to do there soon."
Ya Zi (Chen Yang): "Sister Jiang, you're coming over? That's great! I'll treat you to dinner when you come. There's a really authentic hot pot restaurant near our school! Let me be a good host, after all, you're all my partners as the main character!"
Ya Zi (Chen Yang): "Speaking of which, our Divine Beast Squad hasn't had a get-together yet! How about we take advantage of this opportunity to meet in person? Before, we only met in the Mountain and Sea Realm, and our real-life interactions were just online. Ya Zi is extending an invitation to the Divine Beast Squad's first offline gathering. Su Ge, Uncle Wang, you guys should come too!"
Ya Zi (Chen Yang): "It's just a pity that Grandpa Li is gone! We'll never have the chance to meet again."
The mention of Li Bowen caused a slight pause in the chat group, after which Wang Jianguo spoke first.
Bixi (Wang Jianguo): "Xiao Chen's idea is great! We can all meet in person and get to know each other, so we can help each other out if anything happens in the future! But my construction site is pretty busy lately, and my boss might not give me time off. Also, I seem to live quite far from where you are, and the travel expenses are quite high."
Wang Jianguo's meaning was clear: he was burdened with heavy responsibilities and had no time to go, nor did he want to spend the money.
Bookworm (Jiang He): "I don't really care, but Uncle Wang seems to have something to do!"
Su Fan had no intention of meeting them in person.
Bai Ze (Su Fan): "Not interested! I used to be a salaried office worker, but because of the Mountain and Sea Realm, the three-day fatigue period after each absence made it impossible for me to work seriously, so I simply quit. Now I'm a freelancer to make a living, but it's not very convenient lately."
Ya Zi (Chen Yang): "Seriously, what a wonderful coincidence we have! We're from all over the world, at different ages, but we've come together because of the Mountain and Sea Realm and even received a legacy! If this were a novel, the plot wouldn't be able to move forward without us having an offline gathering to meet up and exchange information!"
@Bixi @Bai Ze, please reconsider? Uncle Wang, I'll cover your travel and accommodation expenses! Sister Jiang, just think of it as a field trip to check out the living environment of the 'Yazi inheritors'! Brother Bai Ze, you're a freelancer with flexible hours, just think of it as a trip to gather inspiration!
Bixi (Wang Jianguo): "Oh, Xiao Chen, you child... I appreciate your kindness! But it's really not about the money."
Wang Jianguo seemed a little embarrassed by Chen Yang's "generosity".
Bixi (Wang Jianguo): "There's a new job on the construction site recently, it's a crucial stage, and the boss is keeping a close eye on it, so I really can't leave. I value my word in this job; if I promise someone, I have to do it well. It's not right to abandon them halfway. Once this busy period is over, if there's another opportunity, I'll definitely go!"
Bai Ze (Su Fan): "Next time for sure!"
Ya Zi (Chen Yang): "Alright! Looks like it'll just be me and Sister Jiang at the first offline get-together of the Divine Beast Squad!"
Days passed by like this, and during these days Su Fan went to the movie theater every day to collect emotions and began to think about the details of controlling Luo Jiuchuan's transactions.
Ten days had passed, and Su Fan used the [Shared Dream Pillow] to enter the dream world.
Everything in the Mountain and Sea Realm was as usual. Su Fan began to guide his will into the realm. Since Li Bowen was dead, there was naturally an extra spot where he could guide others into the realm.
Su Fan then selected a star projection and brought it in, which perfectly filled the gap.
On Qingyu Island, light shimmered. The figures of Su Fan, Chen Yang, Jiang He, and Wang Jianguo quickly solidified.
"We meet again! Did you miss me?" Chen Yang, as always, took the initiative to liven up the atmosphere, but before he finished speaking, his gaze locked onto the fifth figure that was forming, and his voice was filled with surprise, "Huh? Why is there another person?"
All eyes turned to that direction.
The newly formed figure was a middle-aged man who looked to be around thirty years old. He was tall, wearing a wrinkled plaid shirt and jeans, with slightly curly brown hair, deep-set eyes, and a face full of fatigue.
A lingering sense of terror. He stumbled almost the instant his body solidified, his azure eyes widening in disbelief as he stared at the magnificent world before him, shrouded in mist and with floating islands suspended in mid-air, before turning to the four people in front of him.
He blurted out a series of rapid, accented words, his voice hoarse and tense, his body instinctively adopting a defensive posture.
The scene fell silent for a second.
Chen Yang opened his mouth and looked at the others: "Uh... what did he say?"
Wang Jianguo looked bewildered: "Foreigners? What do we do? I don't understand a word."
Su Fan was also taken aback; this situation was somewhat unexpected.
A foreigner? Language barrier? This situation was troublesome and disrupted his plans.
It's so tacky that such a magical place as the Mountain and Sea Realm can't be properly communicated because of language barriers.
However, the rules of the "Shared Dream Pillow" seem to only guarantee the connection of consciousness and the transmission of basic information such as images and simple thoughts, without automatically solving the problem of translating complex languages.
Or rather, everything in the dream is based on Su Fan's understanding. Su Fan doesn't understand this language, so he can't possibly understand it just because he's in a dream!
Chen Yang scratched his head and looked at Su Fan: "Brother Su, does the Bai Ze inheritance include anything like fluency in foreign languages or telepathy? We can't communicate like this!"
Su Fan shook his head with a wry smile: "If only I had one."
The situation was getting out of Su Fan's control, but after a moment's thought, Su Fan came up with an idea.
The Mountain and Sea Realm is entirely Su Fan's home turf. How could he possibly cause trouble here? With a thought, a huge and imposing figure suddenly appeared.
It walks upright, resembles a giant bear, stands nearly three meters tall, and is covered with stiff, black, armor-like fur.
What is most striking is its face—a bear's face with four golden eyes, positioned one above the other, radiating a cold, majestic, and inhuman gaze.
Its left arm held a heavy bronze square shield almost as tall as itself, the shield surface engraved with twisted thunder patterns and animal faces, ancient and heavy; its right hand held a long halberd, the blade of which was gleaming, reflecting the light of the magical tree, and exuding a chilling aura.
"A bear... a bear-man? Or a bear monster wearing a mask?" Chen Yang gasped, instinctively adopting a defensive stance, his fighting instinct, ignited by the blows from Ya Zi, surging within him.
The bear monster's four cold, golden eyes merely swept across the entire arena indifferently, yet they seemed to possess a certain precise "recognition" ability, locking onto the most emotionally intense newcomer in the arena almost without hesitation.
"roar--!"
It didn't even run; it simply raised its long spear and threw it in the direction the foreigners were.
The foreigner, who couldn't speak the language, suddenly stiffened, as if an invisible force had frozen him in place. He turned around in horror, his azure eyes reflecting the rapidly expanding spearhead.
"Pfft!"
The spear pierced his chest, lifting him off the ground. No blood gushed out, but his body convulsed violently, his eyes bulged, and his mouth opened wide but no sound came out; only endless pain overflowed from every inch of his contorted face.
Then, his figure flickered, like a faulty image, suddenly disintegrating into countless points of light.
The gleaming halberd, like a venomous snake striking the air with a sharp, piercing sound, hurtled straight towards the foreigner's chest! The movement was swift, precise, and terrifyingly clear in its target, completely ignoring Chen Yang, Su Fan, and the others who were right beside him.
