Chapter 352 Construction of the Cultivation Area
Chapter 352 Construction of the Cultivation Area
"It's sprouted! Holy crap, it's sprouted!"
"It's sprouting, it's sprouting..."
Lin Fan was half asleep when he heard a loud banging on the door.
He sat up groggily, glanced out the window. It wasn't fully light yet. Just then, there was a knock at the door, followed by a call.
"Mr. Lin! Mr. Lin!!"
"What's wrong?"
He got up, walked over, and opened the door.
The next moment, Bruce rushed in, covered in sweat, his face beaming with joy...
Lin Fan glanced at him, and his sleepiness vanished by half.
Are you alright?
"It's sprouted!!"
"...What's sprouted?"
"The seed! The seed has sprouted!"
Bruce shoved the notebook in his hand at Lin Fan.
"Boss, it's sprouted! I know what conditions it needs now!"
Lin Fan took the notebook, flipped through a few pages, but...
He could only make out the general idea of the dense English text on it. He immediately handed the notebook back to the other person.
"You should tell me."
"Oh, oh, I've found a way to cultivate those seeds, and, and they've even sprouted..."
Bruce briefly recounted his experiment and told Lin Fan his method for making the seeds sprout.
After hearing the gist of the story, Lin Fan was taken aback.
"You mean, you planted that thing in the wastewater treatment area?"
"Yes!"
Bruce nodded and continued.
"After research, I discovered that it requires high-intensity radiation to activate it. I tried it for three hours, and at first there was no reaction. But after I let wastewater seep in, and the radiation level went up, it started to sprout in about twenty minutes!"
Upon hearing this, Lin Fan glanced at Bruce in surprise.
Only then did he notice that the other person's face, which was full of excitement, also showed a hint of fatigue.
Unexpectedly, this high-achieving student who grows marijuana is also a research fanatic.
He quickly shut out the random thoughts in his mind.
"Have you estimated the radiation level this thing will require?"
Upon hearing this, Bruce paused, then thought for a moment before replying:
"There's no specific number, but based on the current situation, I estimate it will continue to absorb nutrients until it matures."
"Continuously absorbing?"
Upon hearing this, Lin Fan couldn't help but think of the glowing monster that had previously attached itself to the nuclear power plant.
Why do these inexplicably appearing monsters all seem to like radiation?
Of course, this includes himself.
Are these creatures like him? Do they all need radiation to grow and evolve?
"Boss, where did this come from?"
Seeing that he remained silent for a long time, Bruce hesitated for a moment before asking the question he wanted to know.
But Lin Fan did not intend to answer the question, after all, compared to the origin of the seed, that strange gray world was even more bizarre.
"You don't need to worry about where it came from, just focus on nurturing it."
Upon hearing this answer, Bruce didn't press the matter further, but couldn't help asking out of curiosity:
"Boss, once these seeds are cultivated, will they be the same as other plants?"
"Well... that should be about right."
Lin Fan had no idea what the seeds could produce.
But in his mind, this thing would most likely grow into that withered tree in the gloomy world.
After all, the seeds were found at the location of that dead tree; he would never believe there was no connection between the two.
Thinking of this, he raised his hand and gestured towards Bruce's chest, and the latter immediately understood and took off the walkie-talkie hanging on his chest and handed it to him.
Lin Fan took the walkie-talkie, pressed the button, and called out into it:
"Miller!"
Miller, who was arranging work in the lobby, heard Lin Fan's voice coming from the walkie-talkie and immediately ran over.
"Mr. Lin? So early?"
"Go and call Helen. We need to meet at the lab; we have some things to arrange."
"good!"
……
A short while later, the group met up in the lab. Lin Fan got straight to the point and stated his arrangements:
"Bruce has already nurtured the seed and it has sprouted, and he has figured out why it sprouted. The problem now is how to keep it growing."
Upon hearing this, Helen's eyes widened, and she turned to look at Bruce:
"You actually let it sprout?"
"Yes, last night..."
Bruce recounted the results of last night's work.
However, upon hearing that the seeds had sprouted beside the wastewater pond, Helen frowned immediately:
"You really let it sprout in the wastewater?"
"Um."
"Are you crazy? Do you know the radiation levels there are dangerously high? You've been standing guard there for hours!"
"Hehe, although it was somewhat dangerous, I took precautions," Bruce chuckled and continued, "Besides, I've already succeeded."
Looking at Bruce's indifferent expression, Helen shook her head helplessly, then turned to look at Lin Fan:
"Lin, if we want it to continue growing, the wastewater area can be used, but that place has limited space and the radiation levels are too concentrated. What if its growth rate is unexpected..."
"I know what you're trying to say."
Lin Fan interrupted her.
"That's why I called you all here. I plan to build a separate cultivation area there, preferably one where radiation levels can be controlled, and where there is enough space."
"Set up a cultivation area?"
Hearing Lin Fan's idea, Helen frowned.
"Setting up a cultivation area is a good idea, and we have the materials and space. There is an abandoned warehouse next to the nuclear power plant that already had radiation protection infrastructure. We can renovate it and use it."
Even with all that, it would still take about a week to set it up, but I don't know...
"No, a week is too long. Let's try to get it set up in two days."
Lin Fan immediately interrupted Helen. Although the seed had only just sprouted, Lin Fan, who knew its origins, did not believe it would have the same growth cycle as plants on Earth.
Hearing his request for two days, Helen looked troubled.
Miller, however, showed a hint of hesitation on his face:
"...It should be possible to finish in two days."
"Okay, two days it is then."
Upon hearing this, Lin Fan immediately made a decision.
"Bruce, you're in charge of the technical parameters. List out the required radiation levels and environmental conditions for Miller."
Helen, you work with him to see if there's a way to perform radiation enrichment using the existing equipment. Miller, you handle the construction.
All three responded at the same time.
The three of them then got to work.
Bruce started writing down the parameters in his notebook, while Helen prepared to retrieve the warehouse equipment list from the computer.
Miller, on the other hand, immediately picked up the walkie-talkie to call his subordinates.
Only Lin Fan stood there, seemingly an outsider, head bowed in thought.
It's a good thing that the seed has sprouted.
But that thing was brought out of the Dark World. What is the Dark World? What is that shadowy figure? The graveyard that Shoggoth mentioned…
There's only one thing he's certain of right now.
That means this seed is definitely not just an ordinary plant seed.
"Let's plant it first and see what grows."
He muttered something to himself, then, without disturbing the three of them any longer, turned and walked out of the laboratory.
