Chapter 1488 You Shouldn't Have Come
Chapter 1488 You Shouldn't Have Come
At the port, the night wind carried the salty smell of the sea, along with the stench of rust and engine oil. Huge cargo ships, like sleeping steel behemoths, cast deep shadows on their berths. The lighting was dim, with only a few scattered work lights and the faint glow of a distant lighthouse barely illuminating the mountains of containers and the winding pipelines.
Chen Jun stood tall and straight like a pine tree, alone on the edge of the shadow of a shipping container, having just finished a brief phone call. The light from the phone screen illuminated his sharply defined profile before quickly fading away.
The call was to his wife, Anran. His planned two-week vacation had been cut short by the unexpected events in Country T, ending in a mere three days. He felt somewhat apologetic.
"How's everything at home? I've started a special operation here, and I'll go home as soon as the mission is over." His voice was unusually gentle.
On the other end of the phone, Anran's voice was calm and warm, filled with understanding and unwavering support: "I'm fine, and the baby is being good. You go ahead with your work and be careful. The baby and I are waiting for you at home."
There were no complaints, no questions, only the simplest trust and waiting. This transformed the slight guilt in his heart into an even firmer resolve. After ending the call, he quickly suppressed his personal emotions, his eyes regaining their sharpness, like a drawn sword.
Old Wen's figure strode closer from the shadows, his voice low and urgent: "Boss, all the brothers from the Strategic Bureau are in position, and the perimeter is all coordinated. The target, Lin Xiuyai, the real boss of Dingsheng Shipping, is on that cargo ship 'Ocean No. 7.' We've monitored him packing up his belongings; it looks like he's gotten wind of it and is preparing to flee under the cover of night!"
Chen Jun's gaze fell on the 10,000-ton cargo ship not far away, which was relatively well-lit and making preparations for departure. His eyes were icy. He nodded slightly and, though his voice was soft, clearly issued the order:
"Notify all units to take action."
"Yes!"
Old Wen immediately picked up the encrypted walkie-talkie and issued the order in a deep voice: "Attention all teams, 'Shark Hunting' operation, now commence! Repeat, 'Shark Hunting' operation commence! According to the pre-arranged plan, blockade the dock, control the target vessel, and carry out the capture!"
The command, like a stone thrown into a still lake, instantly ignited the seemingly tranquil dock.
"Crack-!"
“Thump, thump, thump—!”
Suddenly, a large number of figures emerged from the shadows of the once-silent containers, inside the abandoned sheds, and even on the calm sea (where several speedboats suddenly turned on their searchlights)!
They were all dressed in uniform black special forces uniforms, wearing tactical helmets and carrying automatic weapons. Their movements were swift and orderly, like a black tide, converging on the "Ocean No. 7" cargo ship from all directions! Among them were also some people wearing armed police and maritime law enforcement uniforms, working together.
At the same time, the sound of screeching brakes came from several main entrances and exits of the dock. Six heavy wheeled armored assault vehicles appeared like steel fortresses, their searchlights casting bright beams of light, blocking all land routes leading to the sea. Machine gunners took their positions, completely cutting off any possibility of the cargo ship forcibly breaking through the blockade or personnel escaping by land.
Within just a few dozen seconds, the entire dock area was surrounded like an iron barrel!
Surrounded and protected by numerous law enforcement officers in black uniforms, Chen Jun strode unhurriedly toward the gangway of the "Ocean No. 7". His figure appeared exceptionally tall and stern against the backdrop of the intense searchlights and the tense atmosphere, exuding a calm and domineering aura of complete control.
As he stepped onto the gangway and onto the cargo ship's deck, a middle-aged man, around fifty years old, walked out of the cabin and onto the deck.
The man wore a well-tailored dark suit, his hair meticulously combed back, revealing a broad forehead. His face showed little panic, but rather a strange calm, even a hint of expected composure. He first surveyed the suffocating encirclement below deck and on the surrounding sea, along with the dark muzzles of guns, before finally fixing his gaze on Chen Jun, who had just boarded the deck.
Their eyes met in mid-air.
The middle-aged man, Lin Xiuyai, spoke first. His voice was not loud, but it clearly reached Chen Jun's ears, carrying a complex meaning:
"General Chen."
"It's really you."
"I knew it. The one who could cause such a commotion and find this place in this way... it must be you."
Chen Jun paused slightly, a barely perceptible hint of surprise flashing in his eyes. The other person not only recognized him, but also spoke with certainty, as if they had expected his arrival.
"Oh?" Chen Jun raised an eyebrow, his voice flat. "You know me?"
A cryptic smile appeared on Lin Xiuyai's face, a smile that seemed to contain admiration,感慨, and a deep sense of apprehension. He began to slowly recite a series of titles as if they were his own treasures:
"A 20-year-old general, the youngest Special-Class Combat Hero in Yan Country, one of the highest-ranking officials in the Strategic Security Bureau, the honorary president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the chief designer of many cutting-edge weapons..."
With each identity he revealed, his tone grew more solemn, and his gaze towards Chen Jun deepened. Any one of these identities would be enough to shake a region, yet they were now concentrated on this excessively young soldier before him.
As Chen Jun listened to the other party reveal his secrets one by one, his face showed no anger at being exposed. Instead, he seemed like an audience member enjoying a good show, clapping lightly and even a playful smile appearing on his lips.
“Very detailed.” He nodded. “Did the Abyss tell you this?”
He did not deny any of them, but directly pointed out the source of the information.
Lin Xiuya's smile vanished. He stared intently at Chen Jun, nodded, and readily admitted, "Yes. They warned me that you are dangerous, more dangerous than any of the records suggest."
He paused, a complex emotion flashing deep in his eyes—a mixture of fear and the madness of impending liberation. His voice grew low and strange:
"The abyss also told me... once you know that I know all your secrets..."
"I can't go on living."
After saying this, Lin Xiuya's face suddenly broke into an extremely strange, even somewhat manic, smile. That smile was a terrifying contrast to his previous calm and refined demeanor.
Under Chen Jun's suddenly sharp gaze, and locked on by countless gun barrels and searchlights, Lin Xiuya not only did not retreat or surrender, but instead slowly, as if performing some kind of ritual, opened his arms, facing Chen Jun and the heavily guarded encirclement around him.
His eyes were fixed on Chen Jun, his lips moved, and with all his might, he shouted out his last words, words filled with an ominous premonition and a frantic, resolute determination:
"General Chen..."
"You shouldn't have come here!"
