Chapter 1506 They won't let people sleep!
Chen Jun finally understood why he felt like he had stirred up a hornet's nest among all the criminals in South Vietnam, receiving a warm welcome wherever he went. The attacks came one after another, endlessly, and with vastly different styles, scattered tactics, and no strategy whatsoever. They were like a pack of wild dogs that had smelled meat, swarming in and biting each other.
So that's where it all started: he made headlines in the South Vietnamese underworld, his net worth reaching a staggering $100 million!
They don't care whether you live or die!
"Heh, it's quite valuable." Chen Jun sneered, the nameless anger that had been simmering inside him like flies all the way subsided and transformed into a colder killing intent. He looked at Lu Da and asked, "Can you find out who posted the bounty? Was it that Hai Ge from Thailand, or the Abyss's doing?"
Lu Da looked troubled and shook his head: "Director, this was released simultaneously on several of the largest international dark webs and local black webs in South Vietnam through multiple encryption redirects. The publisher's information is completely anonymous, and the virtual currency used has undergone dozens of mixing and cleaning processes, making it extremely difficult to trace the source. It is almost impossible to pinpoint the specific publisher in a short period of time. The brothers in the technical department are trying to trace the source, but the chances are slim."
"However, besides your vague description and the huge reward, the most dangerous thing about the bounty is that it also includes a 'general route map' of your possible entry and travel. Although it's not very precise, the huge reward is enough to motivate all the shady characters along this route to frantically search and try their luck. The people you encounter along the way are probably just small fry who want to 'get there first' and make a quick buck."
"Damn it..." Chen Jun cursed under his breath. Being used as prey online was incredibly frustrating, especially being relentlessly harassed by a bunch of small fry. He pondered for a moment, then ordered Lu Da and Zhang Tie, "Continue investigating the source of the bounty, use every means possible. Also, keep a close eye on the movements of the South Vietnamese underworld and armed forces, especially any forces that might be colluding with 'The Abyss.' I need to know if, besides these small fry, any real big sharks have been lured out by this hundred million dollars."
After saying that, he took the keys to the beat-up SUV out of his pocket and tossed them to Lu Da: "Also, go and get this piece of junk sorted out. See if it can be repaired; if not, find a place to get rid of it and replace it with an inconspicuous one. Parking it in front of the hotel is too conspicuous; it's practically a sitting duck."
Lu Da took the oil-stained key and exchanged a glance with Zhang Tie. They both saw a hint of helplessness and worry in each other's eyes. Zhang Tie finally couldn't hold back and, taking advantage of the moment when Chen Jun finished explaining things and looked slightly tired, cautiously asked, "Director... there's a question I'm not sure if I should ask."
Chen Jun glanced at him and said, "Speak."
“Boss, wasn’t this infiltration… a little too… too ‘high-profile’?” Zhang Tie carefully chose his words. “According to convention, personnel of your rank and mission type usually choose the most covert channels for infiltration, even employing deep camouflage to try and remain silent. But you practically fought your way in from the border, making quite a commotion. Is there some special plan behind this?”
Upon hearing this, Chen Jun's face remained expressionless. He merely glanced at Zhang Tie with a calm look, which sent a shiver down Zhang Tie's spine.
"Stop talking nonsense." Chen Jun's voice wasn't loud, but it carried an undeniable commanding tone. "What you need to know, you will know. What you don't need to know, don't pry. Now, your task is to carry out orders, gather intelligence, and fix the vehicles. Understand?"
"Yes!" Lu Da and Zhang Ting immediately stood at attention and replied, not daring to ask any more questions.
"Get on with your business. I need to rest." Chen Jun waved his hand, immediately urging everyone to leave. The continuous high-intensity marching and fighting, coupled with the intense mental strain, had left him truly exhausted. Now was not the time for explanations, and he didn't care to. Some plans were best kept quiet.
Lu Da and Zhang Tie dared not linger any longer. They took the car keys, saluted, turned and left the room, gently closing the door behind them.
Silence returned to the room. Chen Jun walked to the bedside, lay down fully clothed, and didn't even take off his shoes. He closed his eyes, forcing himself to relax, but the passive warning mode of "Hacker Space" remained running at a minimum, like the most loyal sentinel, monitoring all unusual movements inside and outside the room.
Lu Da and Zhang Tie, the two elite members of the "sharp knife" team, took their keys and went downstairs. Looking at the "battle-damaged" off-road vehicle in the corner of the parking lot, which looked like it had just been towed from the junkyard, they looked at each other again, their faces filled with helplessness and an indescribable sense of absurdity.
“Brother Zhang, what do you think… what exactly is the director up to?” Lu Da lowered his voice. “This commotion has probably alerted the entire underworld of Southern Vietnam. Our previous undercover work was almost exposed because of this beat-up car.”
Zhang Tie shook his head with a wry smile and patted Lu Da on the shoulder: "Stop guessing. With our brains, we probably can't figure out the plans at the bureau chief's level. Just do what he tells us to do. Repair cars, investigate intelligence. Don't think about anything else, don't ask too many questions."
The two resignedly walked toward the broken-down car.
Inside the room, Chen Jun seemed to have fallen into a deep sleep, his breathing even.
However, at two or three in the morning, when the night is darkest and people are most tired—
Chen Jun's tightly closed eyes suddenly snapped open!
Without a trace of grogginess from just waking up, his pupils shone like two cold stars in the darkness, instantly unleashing a chilling killing intent!
"Damn it...you won't let me get a proper rest, huh?" He cursed inwardly, but his body sprang up from the bed silently, like a cheetah poised to pounce, without making a sound.
The hacker's all-around perception had already alerted him to the anomaly. Outside the hotel, several clearly malicious, deliberately subtle life-generating heat sources were quietly approaching his floor.
He only slept for a few hours? These guys are really dedicated. It seems the lure of a hundred million dollars can indeed turn many people into night owls.
Chen Jun, barefoot on the carpet, moved swiftly to the side and behind the door like a ghost in the dark. He then drew from his waist the special military knife that had been with him for many years, its blade gleaming with a cold, eerie blue light in the dim light.
The blade is short but extremely sharp, making it suitable for silent combat in confined spaces.
He held his breath, his muscles relaxed yet ready to explode at any moment, his entire being almost blending into the shadow behind the door.
"Click..."
A very faint, yet remarkably clear metallic click was heard in the silence. It wasn't the sound of a key being inserted into a lock, but rather the soft click of a professional lock-picking tool turning a pin.
The other person is unlocking the door! Their technique is pretty good; they've controlled the noise very well, so the average person definitely wouldn't hear it.
Chen Jun's eyes grew even colder. It seemed that not only were there desperate criminals, but also some with some skill.
"Click."
With another soft click, the lock cylinder was fully activated.
The door was silently pushed open a crack from the outside. It wasn't pushed open all the way immediately, clearly the other party was also testing the waters.
A thin ray of light pierced through the crack in the door in the dark corridor.
Immediately afterwards, a foot wearing a black combat boot stepped in very slowly and cautiously.
Chen Jun moved! Swift as a ghost!
He yanked the door open with his left hand, and his body shot out from behind the door like a spring compressed to its limit! The military knife he gripped in his right hand transformed into an almost invisible flash of cold light, slashing upwards at an incredibly tricky angle, precisely at the side of the intruder's neck exposed in the crack of the door!
"Pfft!"
The dull thud of a sharp blade slicing through flesh and severing the trachea and carotid artery was particularly chilling in the silence!
"Uh... Heh heh..." The first intruder didn't even have time to react. He only felt a chill on his neck, followed by a tsunami of excruciating pain and suffocation! He instinctively reached out to cover his neck, but warm blood gushed out from between his fingers like a fountain! His eyes bulged, filled with unbelievable horror, and his body staggered backward uncontrollably, crashing into his companion behind him.
The other attackers outside the door reacted extremely quickly! Although they were startled by the sudden horrific state of their companion, their professional instincts allowed them to instantly understand the situation. They growled and immediately raised the muzzles of their guns, pointing them at the dark space inside the door!
However, Chen Jun was faster than them!
As he slit the first man's throat, his body, propelled by the force of the door opening and the momentum of the first intruder's fall, slid out of the room like an eel, facing the remaining three or four dark figures outside!
In a narrow, dimly lit indoor corridor with many shadows, firearms are more likely to accidentally injure companions and are not effectively used.
This is exactly the effect Chen Jun wanted!
"Shh! Shh! Shh!"
The military knife seemed to come alive in his hands, transforming into streaks of deathly light!
quick! allow! ruthless!
The sound of a body falling to the ground rang out almost simultaneously! Accompanied by splattered blood and a strong stench of blood, the entire corridor instantly filled with it!
Chen Jun's movements were uninterrupted, like the Grim Reaper dancing on a knife's edge, swiftly weaving and slicing through the attackers! His figure was elusive, each movement perfectly avoiding the bullets fired in the panic of the enemy, or using the enemy's body as a makeshift shield.
Boom!
puff puff!
In the chaos, bullets struck the walls, ricocheting sparks; some hit fallen comrades, causing them to convulse in their death throes; and many more missed, disappearing into the endless darkness.
The entire hotel floor was instantly jolted awake by the sudden, brief but intense fight and gunfire! Many room doors quietly opened a crack, and guests peeked out in fear, wanting to see what was happening.
Then, they witnessed a horrific scene that they would never forget:
In the dim corridor light, several dark figures dressed in dark clothes, masked, and holding either guns or blood-dripping daggers were frantically shooting and slashing at a faster, almost indistinct figure.
The figure moved among them like a ghost, and with each flash of cold light, someone screamed and fell to the ground, blood splattering everywhere! The walls, carpet, and even the ceiling were covered in horrifying bloodstains!
"Bang! Bang!" The door to the room slammed shut in fright.
