Chapter 1529 Doctor
Chapter 1529 Doctor
Just as Chen Jun coldly stared at the three incapacitated "evolvers" on the ground, adjusting his breathing and pondering how to find a path to the more central area from their mouths or from this hall—
"Clap clap clap..."
A clear, gentle clapping sound, carrying a certain appreciation, suddenly rang out in the hall.
Immediately afterwards, a gentle yet cold middle-aged male voice came through speakers hidden throughout the walls:
"Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant."
Chen Jun suddenly looked up, his sharp gaze sweeping towards the source of the sound. On the previously smooth stone wall on one side of the hall, a soft, water-like light screen suddenly illuminated. The light screen quickly stabilized and became clear, transforming into a highly three-dimensional holographic projection.
The projection showed a middle-aged man dressed in a neat, crisp white lab coat, with gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose. He had a lean face, his hair was meticulously combed, and a faint, almost rigid smile played at the corners of his mouth. His eyes were calm and deep, and even through the projection, one could almost feel the composure and scrutiny of a top researcher.
His overall demeanor was gentle and refined, which clashed sharply with the bloody and violent environment.
His gaze lingered for a moment on the three bald "evolvers" struggling in agony on the ground, his eyes showing no pity or anger, only a detached scrutiny as if examining erroneous experimental data. Then, his gaze slowly moved, finally settling on Chen Jun, who stood with his knife in hand.
"As expected of General Chen Jun, the youngest general in Yan Kingdom and the founder of the National Security Strategy Bureau." The "doctor" on the projection nodded slightly, his voice calm, as if stating a given fact. "You yourself are indeed an astonishing phenomenon. Perhaps, 'monster' would be a more apt description?"
Chen Jun stared blankly at the suddenly appearing projection, his eyes cold.
"A doctor from the abyss?" Chen Jun's voice was filled with undisguised sarcasm as his gaze swept over the other man's white coat. "Or rather, a bug researcher? A coward hiding behind a screen, manipulating these failed experiments?"
The doctor's smile seemed to deepen slightly, but his eyes remained calm and unwavering: "A name is just a label. You can call me Doctor. I'm happy to communicate with such an 'outstanding individual' as you, even if the manner is... a little intense."
"Communicate?" Chen Jun scoffed, brandishing his saber and pointing it at the projection. "I have no interest in 'communicating' with a madman who's about to die. Your toys are of terrible quality."
"Oh?" The doctor's eyebrows twitched almost imperceptibly, but his tone remained calm. "You solved three 'first-generation synergistic enhancement types,' which indeed proved their 'weakness'—an overemphasis on basic strength and defense, resulting in significant deficiencies in their agility, neural reaction, and tactical thinking modules. As a researcher, I should... thank you for providing valuable combat data."
He paused slightly, as if carefully considering his words.
"Reciprocity is a basic etiquette in civilized society."
The doctor pushed up his glasses, and through the projection, his gaze seemed to be able to see Chen Jun directly.
"To express my gratitude, and also to make you have more 'fun'..."
He gently raised his right hand and snapped his fingers gracefully. The movement was gentle, yet carried an undeniable air of authority.
"...I've prepared seven 'little gifts' for you. I hope you...like them."
As soon as he finished speaking, the heavy alloy hidden doors around the hall, which had been tightly closed, suddenly opened slowly inward with a "hiss" sound as hydraulic pressure was released!
"Roar--!!!"
"Ouch——!!!"
Almost the instant the door opened, a deafening roar, a mixture of pain, violence, and pure destructive desire, surged forth from seven different entrances like a burst dam! The sound echoed and amplified in the empty hall, making one's eardrums ache, and the air itself seemed to tremble!
Immediately afterwards, seven enormous, awe-inspiring figures emerged slowly from behind the opened hidden door, their heavy and oppressive steps carrying them with them.
Each of them was over 2.2 meters tall, like miniature giants. They wore only specially made, highly elastic black shorts, their exposed skin an unhealthy, metallic bluish-gray hue, their muscles bulging and knotted to an almost exaggerated degree, veins throbbing and pulsating beneath their skin like twisted steel bars. Their faces were distorted, revealing few human features, and their eyes, in the dim light, faintly emitted a ferocious, ominous dark red glow.
Even more disturbing is the biomagnetic field they emit.
Chen Jun quickly extended his perception using the hacker's hypnosis technique, only to find that the "giant's brainwaves were abnormally calm. It wasn't true calm, but rather a 'blank' or 'single' state, where most complex emotions and independent thought had been forcibly suppressed and erased, leaving only the most basic and primitive commands such as 'obedience,' 'destruction,' and 'killing.' It was like seven biological machines programmed with simple instructions, purely designed for destruction."
Danger! A danger far more pure and violent than those three bald "evolvers" from before!
The doctor in the holographic projection looked at the seven "giants" entering the hall with a satisfied smile, like an artist admiring his masterpiece. He even clapped lightly, his posture elegant.
"Well then, General Chen, please enjoy this 'gift of gratitude' to your heart's content. I hope it will bring you... enough 'pleasure'."
Facing the seven terrifying giants who were closing in step by step, Chen Jun's expression remained unchanged, not even a flicker of emotion in his eyes. Instead, he raised his head and looked at the holographic projection again, asking in a calm tone:
"Is this all the trump card you've hidden inside the mountain?"
He tilted his head slightly, as if asking seriously:
"Who else? Let's call them all out at once. It'll save me the trouble of searching room by room."
For the first time, the doctor's smile froze noticeably. His eyes, hidden behind his glasses, narrowed slightly, revealing a chilling coldness.
"Chen Jun, confidence is an excellent quality, but excessive arrogance," the doctor's voice lost its previous gentleness and became somewhat low and sharp, "often leads to very unpleasant outcomes."
He was clearly enraged by Chen Jun's attitude of treating the seven "advanced evolved warriors" as nothing.
However, he hadn't finished speaking—
Chen Jun made his move!
There was no waiting, no probing, and not even another glance at the doctor's projection!
Before the doctor could finish speaking, Chen Jun's figure had already transformed into a blurry black afterimage. The military knife in his hand drew a sharp, cold light under the cold lights as he launched a fierce charge towards the seven giants who had just stepped into the hall and had not yet fully deployed their formation!
His speed and decisiveness made it seem as if he were the one with absolute advantage, the one hunting!
"Roar--!!!"
The seven giants seemed to sense the completely different yet equally dangerous aura emanating from the little one who had charged forward, and they all roared even more furiously! The roars were like muffled thunder, echoing through the enclosed hall inside the mountain, causing dust to fall in a flurry.
Chen Jun's figure, amidst the roar, had already slipped into the attack range of a giant's fist, a fist powerful enough to shatter stone tablets!
"You can't even be a decent human being, willingly becoming someone else's guinea pig, ending up like this grotesque creature," Chen Jun's icy voice rang out clearly amidst the furious roar, carrying extreme sarcasm and pity, "What great abilities could you possibly have?"
"Your fate was already sealed—"
He swayed, and the powerful fist, strong enough to dent an armored vehicle, whistled past his clothes, the force of which stung his cheek, but failed to touch him in the slightest.
Chen Jun had already slid to the side and behind the giant like a fish.
His movements were fluid and seamless, without the slightest pause. After accurately judging the tiny opening at the junction of the neck and shoulder blade exposed by the opponent's full-force punch, the military knife in his hand suddenly stabbed out like a venomous snake emerging from its hole!
"Pfft!"
The blade pierced precisely into the incredibly tough, bluish-gray skin, penetrating deep into the muscle and reaching the joint between the cervical vertebrae! Chen Jun twisted his wrist, unleashing a burst of skillful force!
"Crack!"
A sickening, faint sound, like bones being forcibly dislocated or partially severed, could be heard.
The giant's massive body, which was charging forward, suddenly froze. The violent red light in its eyes flashed and dimmed abruptly. A meaningless hoarse sound, filled with resentment and astonishment, came from its open mouth. Its power, which could shake mountains, was instantly withdrawn from its body as the nerve connections in its cervical spine were destroyed.
Boom—!!
Like a felled giant tree, its massive body, over two and a half meters tall, slammed heavily onto the alloy floor with the force of its fall, producing a dull, drum-like thud that seemed to shake the entire hall.
A light dust rose.
Chen Jun had already drawn his sword and retreated, standing next to the fallen giant, his saber pointing diagonally, blood dripping from the tip.
First.
He raised his head, his gaze calmly sweeping over the remaining six giants, whose movements faltered slightly as their companions collapsed, before unleashing even more ferocious roars, and the doctor in the distant holographic projection, whose expression finally turned somewhat grim.
The battle has only just begun.
