Chapter 32: No More Than a Top-Tier Publication in Zone 1
Chapter 32: No More Than a Top-Tier Publication in Zone 1
Zhou Mingyuan didn't care at all. He straightened his back, and his smugness almost overflowed.
He waved to Lu Feng, his posture exactly like that of a cunning strategist who borrows the tiger's power.
Su Qin wanted to say something more, but she found that the atmosphere around her had changed.
The students who had initially just been watching the spectacle now focused their attention on the two open black boxes, their whispers growing louder and louder, and the crowd began to unconsciously surge towards them.
Lu Feng ignored their verbal sparring, simply bent down, took out a laptop from another box, and skillfully connected several data cables.
He took the breastplate, arm armor, and leg armor out of the box and hung them one by one on the metal brackets he had brought.
Zhou Mingyuan cleared his throat and winked at Lu Feng: "Junior brother, leave the rest to me. You just sit here and help us register the information."
After saying that, he pulled out a stack of registration forms and a pen from under the table, stuffed them into Lu Feng's hand, and then moved a chair and a parasol over, providing service as attentive as a waiter.
Lu Feng looked at his obsequious manner with some helplessness, but still sat down as instructed.
Zhou Mingyuan took a deep breath, stood on a plastic stool, and raised his arms in a shout.
"Dear students, don't miss out! Want to know how the real-life Iron Man armor was created? Want to touch the technology of the future? The Mechanical Enthusiasts Association gives you a platform to create miracles!"
His highly inflammatory slogan, coupled with the exoskeleton on the support frame next to him, instantly ignited the entire audience.
"Holy crap! It really is that mech from the competition!"
"Quick, quick! Let's go check it out!"
The crowd surged towards the secluded corner of the mechanical engineering club like a floodgate had been opened.
The boys who were lingering in front of the Cosplay Club's booth were now wide-eyed and rushed over.
Who wouldn't want their own Jarvis?
"Senior! Did you guys really make this mecha?" A bespectacled boy squeezed to the front, his face flushed with excitement.
Standing on a stool, Zhou Mingyuan waved his hand and pointed to Lu Feng, who was sitting calmly beside him, proudly announcing, "Of course! The designer and manufacturer is our newest member of the Mechanical Engineering Society, Lu Feng, the great Lu!"
All eyes immediately turned to Lu Feng.
Lu Feng was caught off guard by this sudden turn of events. He had only wanted to be a mascot in peace, but now he had been thrust into the spotlight.
"Hey, can I ask what kind of transmission structure this joint uses? Is it a harmonic reducer or a planetary gear set?" a senior student asked.
"Senior! Senior! Can this thing fly?"
"Can it fire cannons? Like the kind used in competitions!"
"You're so handsome, senior! Can I add you on QQ?"
Questions came one after another. The boys asked about technical details, while the few girls who managed to squeeze in made no attempt to hide their interest in Lu Feng himself.
Lu Feng felt overwhelmed and could only deal with various questions while quickly recording information on the registration form.
I'm here to recruit new employees, not to go on blind dates, right?
Zhou Mingyuan was grinning from ear to ear on the stool, maintaining order while giving a provocative glance to the person opposite him out of the corner of his eye.
Su Qin's face had gone from astonishment to ashen.
She watched as several boys who had been consulting about joining the club at her booth seemed to hear a call and rushed towards the Mechanical Engineering Club without looking back.
Her meticulously prepared lineup of League of Legends cosplay skins appeared utterly inadequate compared to Lu Feng's mechanical armor set.
What made her even more furious was that a boy in her club who was in charge of logistics had also secretly squeezed into the mechanical engineering club's registration line, and she caught him red-handed.
"Where are you going!" Su Qin asked, suppressing her anger.
The boy shrank back and whispered in protest, "President, I just want to... go and learn some of their advanced technology."
Su Qin was so angry she almost spat out blood.
This isn't just undermining someone's foundation; it's completely demolishing their home!
Let's crash this place! It's my place!
The other clubs' booths nearby were also completely dumbfounded.
The guy in the guitar club next door who was playing and singing was plucking the wrong notes; the senior in the roller skating club almost fell over because she couldn't keep her balance during a difficult spin.
They watched helplessly as the flow of people in front of their stall was completely drained by the mechanical shop in that corner, and they were all green with envy.
This kind of treatment used to belong to them!
The morning ended in this chaotic and heated atmosphere.
Zhou Mingyuan jumped off the stool, looked at the thick stack of A4 papers covered with names in Lu Feng's hand, and grinned from ear to ear.
"How many?"
Lu Feng roughly counted them and reported a number: "Three hundred and twenty-seven."
"Hahahaha!" Zhou Mingyuan roared to the sky, his voice filled with triumphant joy. "More than three hundred!!"
He patted Lu Feng heavily on the shoulder: "Junior brother, you've worked hard! Come on, let me treat you to a meal! Order whatever you like!"
Second floor of the cafeteria, a seat by the window.
Lu Feng had just found a place to sit down when Zhou Mingyuan and the others started clamoring to go buy drinks, telling him to hold the seats first.
He was looking down at his phone, checking the latest research information, when a figure, accompanied by a fragrant breeze, sat down opposite him.
Lu Feng looked up and saw a face that could be described as exquisite, but at this moment it carried a somewhat complicated expression.
Su Qin.
"Hello, junior Lu Feng," Su Qin said, greeting him with a sweet, business-like smile.
"Senior Su, is something the matter?" Lu Feng put down his phone, his tone indifferent.
"It's nothing serious." Su Qin tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, leaned forward slightly, and lowered her voice. "I just wanted to ask if you'd be interested in joining our Cosplay club?"
Good grief, someone's trying to poach our talent.
Lu Feng inwardly scoffed, but outwardly remained calm: "Senior is joking, but I've already joined the Mechanical Engineering Club."
"Oh, it's just a club, you don't have to join only one." Su Qin waved her hand, her smile widening. "I think your mecha suit is the perfect cosplay prop! Just imagine, you wearing it to a comic convention, you'd definitely be the center of attention!"
Cosplay props?
Lu Feng almost spat out the water in his mouth.
Good grief, this cutting-edge gadget of mine, which combines multi-scale perturbation methods and nonlinear dynamic models, is just a cosplay prop in your eyes?
This gap in understanding is roughly equivalent to the distance between two galaxies.
"Besides, our club has plenty of funding, lots of activities, and most importantly, lots of senior female students!" Su Qin winked at Lu Feng, her words full of implication, "It's much more interesting than your mechanical engineering club, which is full of monks."
She was full of confidence, believing that no freshman boy could resist such temptation.
However, Lu Feng just smiled at her and then shook his head.
"Senior, I'm really overwhelmed."
His words were polite, but the meaning of his refusal was clearer than any harsh words.
The implication is that I don't have time to play house with you guys.
Su Qin's smile froze.
All the arguments she had prepared were choked off by Lu Feng's casual rejection.
"Oh my, isn't this our President Su?"
Zhou Mingyuan, carrying a tray, squeezed next to Lu Feng.
He slammed the plate down on the table, the stainless steel tray making a dull thud as it hit the surface.
"What, unable to win in a direct confrontation, you're resorting to underhanded tactics to poach talent?"
Zhao Pengfei and Sun Hao also brought over the food.
The three 1.8-meter-tall engineering students standing there subtly formed a circle around each other, creating a strong sense of pressure.
Su Qin was forced to take a half-inch back by this display of force.
She gritted her teeth and forced out a cold snort from her throat.
"I just came over to say hello."
She pulled out a chair next to her, sat down, and picked up her chopsticks, stabbing them hard into the rice.
Zhou Mingyuan ignored her and turned to put a large piece of braised pork into his mouth.
He chewed as he turned toward Lufeng, his words muffled.
"By the way, junior, any news about your SCI paper?"
Sun Hao swallowed the food in his mouth and casually dropped a bombshell.
Su Qin stopped poking at the rice.
SCI?
A freshman?
The absurdity of these words combined is comparable to a sow climbing a tree.
Lu Feng put a mouthful of greens in his mouth, chewed it twice, and swallowed it slowly and deliberately.
"Not yet, it will probably take a few more days."
"That's perfectly normal." Zhou Mingyuan shoveled rice into his mouth and waved his chopsticks nonchalantly.
"My post in Zone 3 took more than half a year to get a response."
"You submitted to Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, a top-tier journal in the first quartile!"
"The reviewers are probably still working on your partial differential equations; it'll probably take a month or two before they release their papers."
"Cough cough cough!"
Su Qin suddenly started coughing.
The rice she had just swallowed got stuck in her trachea, making her choke and almost bringing tears to her eyes.
She clutched her chest, breathing heavily, her face flushed red.
A top-tier journal in Zone 1?!
Are these people performing a comedy routine?!
Lu Feng took a tissue from the tissue box on the table and handed it over.
Su Qin grabbed a tissue, covered her mouth, and it took her a long time to catch her breath.
She stared intently at Lu Feng, her mind filled with Zhou Mingyuan's casual remark about "top-tier publication in District One."
That's really perverted.
This is something no human being could do.
Poaching someone?
What should we use to dig?
Are you trying to compete with the top anime costume magazines in Zone 1 with that whole closet of anime costumes?
What can we use to put it together?
Everyone had their own thoughts while eating the meal.
