Chapter 59: Exile to the Frontier
Chapter 59: Exile to the Frontier
From the patrol team's superintendent's office, Andrew Bailey's furious roar could be heard.
"Look what you've done! Jeremy Jonathan was wounded by a stray bullet because you brought him near the shooting scene."
Evelyn retorted, her head bowed.
"He promised not to leave the police car."
"If you can take the testimonials seriously, then what's the point of having us police officers? Ethan, you know very well what your responsibilities are as a leader."
Lee Esen nodded.
"I see."
"Jeremy Jonathan has filed a complaint against the police department. As the only person to experience the department's services in several years, his complaint is serious and will affect you, understand?"
Li Yisen began to understand why he disliked that guy at first sight. He really was a troublemaker. He just didn't know if it was on purpose.
Just then, an Interior Ministry policeman walked in, bringing bad news.
"Today we received four complaints against Constable Ethan, with complainants alleging that Constable Ethan violated regulations during law enforcement."
"..."
At that moment, the three people in the office felt a chill in their hearts. Four incidents in one day—it was too many and too coincidental. They knew without even guessing that someone was targeting them.
But as an ordinary police officer, do I have the ability to resist this kind of targeting?
Andrew Bailey took the complaint documents and then put them down.
"You can leave now. I'll talk to the bureau chief later. You've offended quite a few people; this might be a targeted attack."
"Sir, thank you for your help."
The two left the office, and Evelyn looked at Ethan with some concern.
"Senior, won't those above see this clearly?"
What do you think?
I don't think so.
"Congratulations, you guessed right."
.
It was nearing the end of the workday when Chief Jason Garcia finally approached Lee Ethan for a chat.
"Ethan, what do you think about the complaint against you?"
"Is someone targeting me?"
Jason Garcia nodded.
"Two complaints have been confirmed as false, but two are still difficult to define, and there's also the Jeremy Jonathan case. The Eastern Regional Police Department just held a meeting about this and made it clear that you messed it up."
Although Li Yisen was mentally prepared, his heart still sank.
"Won't the consequence be that I get fired?"
"No, you're a rookie in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and you recently made a great contribution. If it weren't for the Secretary of the Interior's insistence, you might not have been transferred."
It's the Minister of the Interior again. That guy is like a persistent ghost.
Jason Garcia handed Lee Ethan a transfer document.
"Lano is a small town our city is responsible for north of the Colorado River. It has a population of only 600 and usually has four police officers assigned to it. A few days ago, two officers were unfortunately shot and killed by drug dealers, so the higher-ups decided to transfer you there. Of course, Lano isn't all bad; one year of service there is equivalent to three years of experience."
Of course, Ethan Lee knew the location of Lano, a small town opposite San Antonio Hill. Only the land near the river had some greenery and small farms; the rest was desert, and that was the most important point.
The area where Lano is located is an unincorporated area. It used to have gold mines that have been abandoned, and it is also a major route for a state highway. It is arguably the area with the most serious drug trafficking smuggling, which is why only 4 police officers are assigned to a population of 600.
Even so, on average, one police officer stationed here dies in the line of duty every six months.
Lano is bordered by river valleys and mountains to the west, and by an endless desert to the east. The nearest town is more than 20 kilometers away, making it truly one of the worst locations in the county sheriff's jurisdiction.
Lee Esen nodded.
"I'll accept the police's arrangement. Evelyn won't come with me, will she?"
Jason Garcia shook his head.
"Logically, you and she should go together, but since her family is one of the suppliers of police equipment, they won't go unless her father asks."
"That's alright."
Li Yisen was genuinely worried that the silly girl would follow him. He himself wasn't entirely confident of securing his place, let alone bringing a junior along.
Jason Garcia sighed. He truly admired this young man; he was full of passion and drive, much like himself when he was young.
But after more than 40 years in the police force, he has become shrewd. Just like this time, even though he knew that someone was targeting him and that it would be very dangerous for Ethan Lee to go there, he was unwilling to bear the pressure and insisted on protecting him.
"Is there anything else you need? I'll try my best to fulfill your request if possible."
"I want a helicopter."
"???"
Jason Garcia's guilt vanished instantly from his bewilderment. What the hell, a helicopter?
"What do you need a helicopter for? Can you fly it?"
"Yes, I can, and I'm really good at it."
"..."
Jason Garcia thought the young man was bragging, but ultimately agreed out of guilt.
"If you can make a great contribution over there, I will consider sending one over. There is a small airport and flight school 10 kilometers away from Lano. There has been a long-standing issue of equipping it with helicopters, but it has not been approved."
"Thank you so much."
Jason Garcia immediately called Evelyn after finishing his conversation with Ethan Lee, and it was still about the same thing.
.
A moment later, Evelyn rushed out excitedly and, under the watchful eyes of many colleagues, hugged Lee Ethan's head, creating a striking change in his appearance.
One of them was standing, and the other was sitting.
Li Yisen felt his head sinking into a soft sponge, smelling an alluring fragrance, and of course, a slight feeling of suffocation.
This scene made many male police officers swallow hard, truly envious... no, truly shameless.
A voice, tinged with a sob, came through.
"Senior, I will ask my father for help. Lano is too dangerous."
Lee Ethan pulled the policewoman away so he could breathe some fresh air, though he was actually a little reluctant to let her go.
"No, this is a normal transfer. With my abilities, who can take my life?"
Evelyn's eyes were indeed a little red; it's a woman's emotional state.
They became partners within a month of graduating from police academy, and their relationship was both mentor and friend.
Now she's been transferred to the most dangerous place, while her partner, who should have shared the responsibility, is completely unharmed. Sadness, worry, guilt, and all sorts of other emotions fill her heart.
Lee Ethan patted Evelyn's head.
"Newbie, are you crying? Really?"
"No, I'm just a little excited. And don't call me a newbie, you jerk."
Evelyn angrily punched Lee Ethan a few times; her chubby face resembled a golden hamster.
"Yes, yes, now enjoy your paid leave."
Killing the robbers means you can get a holiday.
That evening, Li Yisen posted his transfer order in the 108th group, which immediately aroused the indignation of his friends.
Kaia Anderson even asked her father, a high-ranking official, for help. Goodness, one after another, they all said they would protect her. It would be a lie to say that Lee Ethan wasn't moved, but he still refused. The favor was too great.
Kaia is now working with the Eastern Criminal Investigation Bureau on cases, and her father may not be willing to jeopardize his daughter's career for the sake of an outsider.
And while the place is indeed dangerous, it may not be unsuitable for him.
But before that, he wanted to investigate those bastards who were targeting him. He believed that a gentleman would not leave a grudge unavenged, even if he didn't consider himself a gentleman.
.
Two days passed quickly. Li Yisen, with dark circles under his eyes, was looking at the computer. These two days had been either spent going out to follow people or using the computer to look up information. It was a really high-intensity job.
Suddenly, a news item caught Lee Ethan's attention: Jeremy Jonathan's new movie was about to start filming.
This guy was shot not long ago, and now he's turning his phone on?
Li Yisen used several methods to check the registration information of investment companies, including information on legal representatives, shareholders, and business scope.
The California Secretary of State's business portal, industry databases such as Dun & Bradstreet and Moody's Investor Services, and film and television platforms.
After a busy afternoon, tracing back to the source, they finally found the investor: a company under the Frederick family.
"I see, it's you guys."
At this moment, Lee Ethan understood everything; no wonder no assassins had made a move.
